Assessment of the monetisation potential for a digital support/monitoring feature

Assessment of the implications for volume/willingness to pay associated with digital applications for supporting/monitoring patients with asthma/COPD

Scope

Europe

Therapy area

Respiratory

Client

MedTech company
Context

The Challenge

  • The client was evaluating the potential volume/pricing impact associated with a digital application to support with the monitoring/management of patients with asthma and COPD (assuming this is used in combination with an established medical device)
  • The client was considering this approach to optimise competitive differentiation within a highly competitive market (and to potentially support additional funding) and required an understanding of the receptiveness of the approach and commercial implications

‍

Requirements

Project Objectives

  • Understand the perceived clinical value associated with the digital application to support with the monitoring/management of patients with asthma and COPD
  • Understand the potential pricing/procurement implications of the digital application and practical requirements for this to achieve additional revenue
  • Development of strategic recommendations regarding the overall value of introducing the digital application (and potential variation between markets)

‍

Methodology

Our Approach

  • Primary research was completed with senior physicians responsible for treating target patients to inform the current clinical landscape, drivers of value for the new technology, requirements to initiate adoption, and predicted market share
  • Primary research was completed with national/ regional/local payers (including HTA stakeholders) to inform requirements for compelling value demonstration vs. comparators and requirements to optimise clinical/humanistic/economic value demonstration

‍

Outcomes

Value Delivered

  • The client received a detailed understanding of requirements to optimise the European clinical and commercial opportunity for the medical technology
  • This was developed into a European asset plan, including critical success factors, required tactics (and associated investments) to inform commercialisation partner engagement
  • Outputs also informed the development of a European commercial forecast (considering credible market scenarios)
